Porcelain & Composite Veneers in Edgecliff

Worried that your teeth are chipped or you have a gap between your teeth? There is an easy method to fix the problem. Prosthetic devices called dental veneers are used exactly for this purpose. Dental veneers are thin, delicate shell-like coverings which are glued on top of your problem teeth. They mask all irregularities and problems of the teeth.

Our clinic has helped many clients who have approached us with various problems like stained teeth, teeth which have lost their sheen due to aging, crooked teeth, and unevenly shaped teeth. All of this issues can be sorted out using dental veneers. At our clinic, we provide two types of devices – porcelain and composite veneers. They are custom made and make a perfect and permanent cosmetic treatment.

Placing dental veneers

The treatment will take just a couple of visits to our dentist.

During the initial visit, our dentist will conduct a thorough oral examination and then discuss the type of treatment options that are most suitable for your situation and budget. You can ask any questions you may have and decide whether you want to opt for veneers.

This procedure is fairly simple and does not usually require anaesthesia, but some may need it depending on the sensitivity of the teeth. A little bit of dental enamel will be removed from your tooth to prevent the tooth from jutting out when the veneer is placed. The prepared tooth is covered by the veneer which will match the remaining teeth exactly in colour and shape.

After preparing your tooth, a dental impression will be taken to prepare a customized dental veneer. We use a colour that exactly matches your other natural teeth. The prepared veneers are then fixed and held in place by a special adhesive. A light treatment is done after it is placed to securely bond it to the tooth surface.

After the procedure is completed, we will have a follow up session to make sure that the device is working well for you.

Guidelines for long lasting veneers

Veneers are highly durable restorative solutions for your teeth. To make sure they last long, just provide proper care.

It is easy to care for your veneers. Simply clean them like natural teeth – daily brushing and flossing is a must. Choose a whitening toothpaste if you can. Avoid ripping action and biting on hard things whilst eating as veneers can crack if treated roughly.

Porcelain veneers do not stain however composite veneers can stain after a while, so if you have composite veneers it is advisable to limit drinks like coffee, wine or cola. Staining is caused not just by food — smoking and tobacco can also do that. Refrain from putting pressure on veneers by chewing on ice, nails, or other hard substances.

If you are active in contact sports like football or basketball, remember to wear mouth guards which will protect your teeth and veneers. Also try to seek treatment for problems like teeth grinding, because this habit will cause damage to your veneers. You may need to wear night guards to protect your veneers depending on how severe the habit is.

If you follow all of this, your veneers will last you a very long time.
